Lighting
Use your screen as a soft light
A large bright screen can work as a convenient soft light when a lamp is unavailable. It will not replace a calibrated studio light, but careful placement improves the result.
Make the source appear larger
Place the screen close to the subject but outside the camera frame. A larger apparent source creates softer shadows. Keep enough distance to avoid uncomfortable brightness.
Choose color intentionally
White is neutral for most calls. Warm yellow or orange can soften a cool room; pale blue can balance very warm ambient light. Strong saturated colors work better as creative accent light than face light.
Balance brightness
Begin at low brightness and raise it gradually while watching the camera preview. If highlights on skin or objects lose detail, reduce brightness or move the display farther away.
Protect your eyes and color accuracy
Do not stare into a bright panel in a dark room. Take breaks, keep ambient light present and use a calibrated light source for work where faithful color reproduction is critical.
